Churup Peak is close to Huaraz and at its feet lies a lagoon known as “the Lake of Seven Colors”, for its variety of green, blue and turquoises that come to life when the sun’s rays fall on the water. During the trail you have a great panoramic view of Huaraz, the peaks of Cashan and Shaqsha, and you will also see beautiful waterfalls and vertical rock walls in the canyon that takes us to the lake. It is an excellent hike for acclimation.
Infinite Adventures will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning and take you to Pitec Hamlet, around 1 hour-drive from Huaraz, where we will start the hike. The trail ascends along a ridge, in the direction of Churup’s Peak, with views of the Cashan and Shaqsha peaks and the Cordillera Negra (Black Range). After 2 or 3 hours of walking, you’ll arrive to the most difficult point of the route which requires some scrambling to climb up to the lake. After another 20 minutes walk leading to the lake, you will have enough time to rest by the lake, enjoy your lunch and take plenty of pictures. The descent to Pitec takes about 2 hours where the transportation awaits to take you back to your hotel in Huaraz.
